Segura Viudas Rosado Cava, Spain

With the first notes of Spring comes a great opportunity to taste rose or sparkling wines, so why not try both I thought!

First out of the fridge was the Rosado Cava from Segura Viudas.

A deep pink in colour with gentle raspberry nose. Gently effervescent yet as noisy as a brass band in comparison this is a wine that revels in contradictions. The palate is anything but simple raspberries. An acidic attack that is followed rapidly by a full concentration of frozen summer pudding fruit. Its pleasant, surprising and leaves a lasting flavour that lingers pleasantly in the mouth.

This is a light wine at only 12% in alcohol compared to many of the wines now lingering on our shelves but it still has that wonderful warming feeling leaving you basking in that spring sunshine. Or perhaps that was just the atmosphere that I conjured during the second glass... Not a bad sign in a wine I think!
